Why ?

One of the first questions people ask about naturism is “Why ?”

The idea of us wearing clothes everyday and hiding away our bodies is so deeply ingrained in most people that the act of discarding the pieces of cloth is unthinkable. but as you are reading this, I’m guessing that you do think about shedding your clothes.

Perhaps you’re just curious at the moment as to why people choose to go clothes free, thats ok,  perhaps once you understand you will want to try being clothes free too.

Virtually every person I have ever spoken to, or written account read says the one thing about the first time you go clothes free.

“I felt so free”

If you spend your life wrapped in clothing, it’s difficult to appreciate just how much you feel restricted when dressed.

The majority of people only ever spend time naked when they are in the shower/bath or are being intimate. The distractions these activities generate don’t really allow the person to feel the sensations of being naked for it’s own sake.

“But…”, you say, “I’m nearly naked when I swim in my bathing suit… what difference will it make to get rid of that bit of cloth ?”

The answer is surprising and not so surprising.

“I felt so free”

Think about the last time you went swimming. think about when you get out of the pool and how the fabric clings to you. even if you go and lie in the sun, your swimming costume is still damp and just how yucky a feeling is that ?

Contrast that with a naked swim. You climb out of the water, which drips off your body as there is nothing to stop it, the the sun and breeze combine to gently dry your skin. Which is truly delicious….

Even if you aren’t lucky enough to  be lying on a sun kissed beach and you are getting out of a municipal swimming pool, the damp, cold, clingy costume is still there and how quickly does that swimsuit start to feel cold and clammy ?

I’m not saying that you can’t feel cold when you’re naked, but the wet fabric accentuates the sensations.  If you don’t believe me, try it both ways. In the safety and privacy of your bathroom if you need to.

But the lack of a clammy swimsuit is not  the only benefit in swimming naked. The sensations of the water flowing over *all* your body, and of all your body parts moving as nature intended are a very pleasant surprise to new naked swimmers, and most decide that swimming with a costume is a vastly inferior pastime from that point on.

But Naturism isn’t just about swimming, but it’s a good way to demonstrate the benefit of the heightened sense of your environment that you gain when you ditch the fabric shielding you from the environment.

Did you know there are children who have been diagnosed with Rickets in recent times ? A disease that used to be common in pre industrial revolution times caused by  the children moving into the towns living in dark houses and were denied the playtime in sunshine of thier country based counterparts.

It takes 20 minutes of exposure to daylight (not even sunshine) to generate your daily quota of vitamin D.

Most people just aren’t aware of how restrictive their clothing is.

Most women are glad when it come to the end of the day and they can get rid of the bra.

Mens underwear can be the same, cramming the genitals into a sweaty pouch which is squashed into improper positions when sitting down. (recently anatomical designs have started to appear in men’s underwear which has improved things slightly though)

of course there is always the option of “going commando”, but even then there are still belts, and elastication of other items of clothing to force our bodies into unnatural positions.

Think about body odour. Not a pleasant thought perhaps, but consider that when we sweat into clothes, it just stays there… damp and warm. It’s no wonder it gets pongy.

I’m not saying that living clothes free means you don’t have to wash ! but it does mean that you don’t cook bodily sweat in the same way as it will evaporate in order to cool you down as nature intended.

It isn’t a reason for going naked, unless you are very environmentally concerned, but consider how much laundry (and ironing !) you would save by living clothes free ?

A lot of people have one set of clothes for work and then change in to leisure clothes for the evening and weekends. Choosing to live clothes free could could your laundry bill in half…
